When-Life-Gives-You-Lemons-Make-Homemade-Lemonade

To coincide with New Canaan YMCA's 60th birthday party celebrations - the Jamie Oliver Voluntary Food Ambassadors: Silvia Baldini and Rachel Lampen will continue with their New Canaan Food Revolution this Saturday, May 31stbetween 2 - 4pm.

Find them in the back field where special guests will discuss the benefits of their healthy products - you can even try out holistic therapies. We are delighted to welcome Marina Marchese, Founder Red Bee® Honey who will be talking about her pure honey, handing out samples and selling signed copies of her latest book - The Honey Connoisseur: Selecting, Tasting, and Pairing Honey, With a Guide to More Than 30 Varietals. Did you know that honey is nature's only raw, unprocessed sweetener? Joining her will be New Canaan Olive Oil, which promotes eating clean, healthy and natural foods. New Canaan's Sokushindo Oriental Foot Reflexology, which opened at the end of April will be providing complimentary foot massages and talking about how stimulating and applying pressure to the feet or hands can positively affect the health of other parts of the body, including the all important digestive system.

With the heat of summer on its way and to promote healthier eating and drinking, the Food Revolution needs your help in building the longest lemonade stand! We are looking for families to bring along pitchers of their finest, homemade lemonade complete with the recipe and unique name to be judged for the Food Revolution Lemonade Competition. The best tasting lemonade recipes will be featured in the Hamlet Hub, with pictures. All participants will receive a Walter Stewart's wooden spoon (perfect for stirring up large batches). Lemonade is a pretty humble beverage, so we will not only be judging on taste but also on ingredients (e.g. substitute sugar for honey); uniqueness (e.g. maybe throw in some herbs or other fruit;) and the best name (e.g. Luscious Lemone). Lemons contain many substances - notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene--that promote immunity and fight infection.
