The Food Revolution Day Comes to Town!

Dr Leonaura Rhodes describes how Food Revolution Day is coming to town!

The Food Revolution Day Comes to New Canaan and Fairfield County, Connecticut! “For the first time in world history we have over 1 billion people underweight and over 1 billion people overweight or obese.” Jamie Oliver. For those of you who don’t know him, Jamie Oliver is a British Chef and Founder of Food Revolution Day. Oliver came to fame in the US in 2010, with the TV show: Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. In the first, Emmy winning season, Oliver visited Huntington, West Virginia, one of the unhealthiest cities in the US, to try to improve its residents’ eating habits. The second season took Oliver to LA, where he crusaded to improve school food. The Food Revolution Day is a movement to improve the health of our children and communities by leading a return to real, healthy, wholesome food. Food Revolution Day in 2012 consisted of over 1000 events, (460 local food events and 541 dinner parties) took place in 664 cities spanning 62 countries worldwide. Social media coverage was enormous with a twitter reach of over 729,993,200 users.   My name is Leonaura Rhodes from New Canaan and I volunteer for the Food Revolution. I give my spare time for free to further the mission of the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation. The Food Revolution has selected a number of volunteers from around the world who showed a deep commitment to real food and I’m thrilled to be one of them. It is my belief that healthy food is a key ingredient in health and wellbeing, especially for children. Unhealthy food is linked to development of many chronic illnesses which are preventable like heart disease, inflammatory conditions like fibromyalgia, diabetes and some cancers. May 17th 2013 is Food Revolution Day.  I am planning a series of events to help promote healthy eating in New Canaan and Fairfield County, Connecticut. I have a few ideas in the pipeline but am keen to hear ideas from the community. After all, this is YOUR Food Revolution!
