ANIMAL CALLS
At 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, a woman walking on Cherry Street reportedly was bitten by a dog that resembled a Bichon Frise, according to Animal Control Officer Mary Ann Kleinschmitt. Apparently, a man was walking two dogs—both leashed—and one of them jumped up and bit the complainant. The man reportedly called the dog “Cooper,” Kleinschmitt said.

The New Canaan Police Department Animal Control unit at 8:30 a.m. on Monday received a report that a Wheaten Terrier—with neither tags nor a microchip identifying the animal—was found on Long Tree Farm Road. The animal, impounded, had been injured, Kleinschmitt said. A homeowner on Long Tree Farm Road found the dog and held it for police.

At 12:30 p.m. Monday, police found and impounded a roaming dog near Park Street at Richmond Hill Avenue, Kleinschmitt said.
The Animal Control officer said the dog was tagged and that she knew the animal. The dog’s homeowner wasn’t at home, she said.

Police last Wednesday morning secured two ponies that got loose from their corral and ran into Smith Ridge Road up near North Wilton Road. An officer was kicked and another injured .

Last Tuesday, April 24, at approximately 2:45 p.m., a dog bite occurred at Waveny, when a jogger passed a leashed dog and the dog jumped up and bit his thigh. The owner reported the bite (as required by law) to Animal Control and the dog was placed in an off-property quarantine for 14 days (also as required by law). The jogger also reported the bite to Animal Control. A Written Warning was issued on Nuisance (22-363) to the dog owner.

LOST PETS
Police since at least Monday morning say they’ve been on the lookout for a missing German shepherd dog. According to Kleinschmitt, the dog went missing near Charter Oak Drive, has hip problems and cannot run fast.

See the attached “lost dog” notice on “Skye,” a 1-year-old, 45-pound female golden retriever who on April 14 got away from his owner at Spencer’s Run in , ran across Lapham Road and into the woods there—and hasn’t been seen since. Kleinschmitt confirmed with New Canaan Patch on Monday that the dog remains missing.

- April 23: Police said they received a report of a coyote sighting at 55 Running Brook Lane at 9:30 a.m. on April 23, and another sighting on the same road at 11:15 a.m. on April 24;
- April 30: At about 9:15 a.m. Monday, a town resident spotted and photographed at 32 Sunrise Avenue.
