Five Things to Know About New Canaan: August 9

Register your middle school student now for the popular Successful Study Skills 4 Students workshop, plus more.

  1. Three meetings are scheduled for today.
  • A Traffic Calming Committee meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the New Canaan Police Department. Some items on the agenda are Frogtown Road - speeding, Varnum's Pharmacy Driveway andMillport Av - speed and crosswalk.
  • A Long Range Planning Committee - Special Meeting - at 4 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium. Agenda items are  senior housing, facility updates and more.
  • A Board of Finance Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Board Room. On the agenda are Selectmen’s salaries, budgets and more.

2. Attend the Authors on Stage at the New Canaan Library tonight at 7:30 p.m. and join author Sara Nelson as she discusses her book So Many Books, So Little Time. "Currently the book editor for O, The Oprah Magazine and the former editor-in-chief of Publisher's Weekly. She will join us in sharing some great books."

3. Register your middle school student now for the popular S4 – Successful Study Skills 4 Students workshop. Limited to 15 students "the 7½ hour 5-session S4 workshop will be held at Middlesex Middle School, 204 Hollow Tree Ridge Rd. Darien, the week of August 15-19 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The fee is $395. 4. The Town Players of New Canaan production of American Songbook will have its final performance on Saturday, August 13 at 8 p.m. at the Powerhouse Theatre. American Songbook is an original production conceived by Richard Mancini, celebrating the music of the World War II years. The Town Players we will be accepting donations for the New Canaan Food Bank, please place donations in the wicker basket by the box office window. Tickets are $25 Adults and $20 Students and Seniors.

5. Get ready for New Canaan's 1st Annual Restaurant Week. Beginning August 25 with The Taste of Town Stroll and continuing on August 26 through September 3 with prix fixe menus available at these participating restaurants - , , , , , , , , , , and Tuscan. All to benefit the The Food Pantry.
