Five Things to Know About New Canaan: July 13

  1. Carousel - a Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical - is the newest show of the Summer Theatre Festival at Waveny Park. Opening night is this Saturday and will play through August 6. Show goers on Sunday will be treated to a wonderful Summer feast - a Special Carousel Clambake. "Enjoy a real New England Clambake brought to your table during intermission!" Adults $125, students $80.
  2. Long Range Planning Committee - Special Meeting today from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium. Items on this agenda include Update on work completed to date, senior housing and the Fire Department.
  3. A Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting will be held tonight from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the -Douglas Room. A few items on the agenda are, Discussion of proposal to complete the trail in Irwin Park, update on High School track and approve site location for “Roly Poly Hill” at Irwin Park.
  4. Looking for a place to discuss your writing? Well the in the Westport Arts Center located at 51 Riverside Avenue is the place for you. At their monthly "Writers' Cafe - come join fellow writers for coffee, talk, and camaraderie." Noon - 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
  5. There will be a course this Saturday at the Maritme Aquarium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. "The course is perfect for new boaters and longtime seafarers who would enjoy a refresher." Cost is $85 per person. Reservations are required.
