Get out of the heat and step into the cool New Canaan Library for today's Author on Stage, plus more.

  1. Get out of the heat and step into the cool for today's Author on Stage: Mike Shalin. "Author of, "Donnie Baseball: The Definitive Biography of Don Mattingly," as he discusses his latest work which takes a close look at the life of this well-known player and now coach." Starting at 7:30 p.m. - this event is part of the program Summer Read 2011. Purchase a book and you have a chance to win a copy signed by Mattingly himself.
  2. Head over to for Around the World Performance Series: USA: Mike Casey Jazz Quartet this Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. "Hear music from jazz saxophonist and Connecticut resident, Mike Casey. As a student of jazz, Mike is proficient on tenor saxophone and flute as well as alto saxophone, his primary instrument."
  3. "Don't miss this intimate outdoor performance by legendary three time Grammy Award winning artists, The Dooby Brothers." Thursday, July 28 9 p.m. at The Levitt Pavillion in Westport. At 7 p.m. there will be pre-concert cocktails - for premium ticket holders and sponsors - $70 patron section, $95 preferred section and $250 premium section.
  4. Your chance to catch the performance of "A Year With Frog and Toad" is soon coming to an end. The last performance is August 6 and there are only a few others before then. Get tickets now!
  5. An exhibit of Edmund M. Ashe's paintings, posters and personal artifacts is open in the Silvermine Room at the New Canaan Historical Society. "Edmund Ashe was a painter, illustrator and educator. He was distinctly an American painter, drawn toward the people - the mountain people of the Smokies in Tennessee, the steel workers in Pittsburgh, and the river people of the South as well as family portraits. He moved to Westport in 1905 and was one of the founders of the Silvermine Group of Artists, remaining one of its leaders as long as it existed."
