Five Things to Know About New Canaan: July 27

The Town Players of New Canaan begin their production of American Songbook, plus more.

  1. There will be Public Hearings of the Town Council tonight starting at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium of Town Hall regarding sidewalks and a grant to study parking and senior living at the Lumberyard.
  2. The Town Players of New Canaan will begin their production of American Songbook Friday at 8 p.m. at the Powerhouse Theatre. American Songbook is an original production conceived by Richard Mancini, celebrating the music of the World War II years. The Town Players we will be accepting donations for the New Canaan Food Bank, please place donations in the wicker basket by the box office window. Tickets are $25 Adults and $20 Students and Seniors.
  3. Join the Summer Theatre of New Canaan this Saturday or Sunday for their production of Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse based on the best selling children book series by Kevin Henkes.
  4. The 5th Annual is this Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m. at 16 S. Division St, Peekskill, NY. "The Festival attracts thousands of people from across the Tri-State area, and has become one of Westchester's premiere summer musical and creative events."
  5. Sunset lectures at Sherwood Island end this week. The Friends of Sherwood Island State Park host a lecture series on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. in the Nature Center. This Thursday, July 28 the subject is Connecticut Parks: Back to the Future with guest speaker Dan Esty, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. The lecture, refreshments and snacks are free, so is the entrance fee to the park after 5:30 p.m.
