Five Things to Know About New Canaan: July 7

Board of Selectman special meeting today plus much more.

  1. Rowayton Arts Center has announced the winners of their Marine and Coastal Art Exhibit. “Marsh Grass,” an oil painting by Kendall Klingbeil of Pound Ridge, NY, won Best In Show and the first Saul White Memorial Award. New Canaan winners are Susan O’Shea – third Oil; and Marianne Rothballer – first Watercolor. Congratulations!
  2. Saturday, July 16 the Maritime Aquarium will give you a Behind-the-Scenes Tour "at how the sharks, seals, river otters and hundreds of other aquatic species are kept happy, healthy and well-fed." The tour will begin at 8:15 a.m. Attendees must be at least 10 years old, under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $32.50 ($22.50 for Aquarium members) and includes Aquarium admission at 10 a.m
  3. The 3rd Annual , will take place Saturday, July 23 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the . Part of the “Summer Campfire Series” there will be performances by Reggae Culture, the School of Rock House Band as well as returning performers Matt Black and John Moses. So pack up your family and some dinner and come enjoy. The fee is $5 for Nature Center members and $8 for non-members (free for children under 2).
  4. There is a Board of Selectmen Special Meeting today at 2 p.m. in the Town Hall Board Room. A few items on the agenda are Tree Work contract approval for $14,983.68, hybrid diesel/electric school bus, a new lawn mower and snow plow at $35,703.60, plus much more.
  5. The will host a Harry Potter Marathon beginning Monday, July 11 through July 14 in the Adrian Lamb Room beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will have two movies at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
