Five Things to Know About New Canaan: June 17

Dinosaur Summer roars into the area and another great idea for Dad, plus more.

  1. Meet the New York Times best-selling author Howard Blum at  and pick up a signed copy of his new book,   This book — which is soon to be a major motion picture — is a must read for Dad.
  2. ROAARRR! The Maritime Aquarium is hosting a "Dinosaur Summer" with an IMAX movie “T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous”  and a robotic dinosaur exhibit and a simulator ride-film “Dino Island II: Escape from Dinosaur Island”. This "triple play" ends September 5, don't miss it.
  3. The Class of 2011 commencement exercises will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 5 p.m. at Dunning Stadium. Click here for more information.
  4. The will host the Whirlwind Diving Flip-A-Thon Monday, June 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. "Current divers include past champions at USA Diving national meets like Speedo, Age Groups and East Nationals. The team returns five high school All Americans, seven divers who made it to Summer Nationals and ten qualifiers for Spring East Nationals."
  5. Boat owners avoid the 4th of July rush at the DMV by getting a new registration or any needed assistance for a renewal now. "Connecticut law requires that all jet skis, boats with motors, regardless of size, and sailboats powered by sail alone, 19 1/2 feet or longer in length, be registered and numbered before launching. If someone purchases a boat that is currently registered, it must be re-registered in the name of the new owner."
