As post-Sandy clean-up continues across Fairfield County, residents have been asking how they can help their neighbors in Superstorm Sandy's aftermath—particular those neighbors in the devastated beach areas.

From local volunteer and donation opportunities to those beyond the county (such as New Jersey and New York), Patch has details on who needs help from their neighbors.

Henry C. Reid & Son Jewelers Collecting Donations for Victims of Storm Sandy

The New Canaan and Fairfield jeweler will be collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries to donate to Operation Hope, which needs to rebuild its pantry supply following Sandy.

People can drop off items at its Fairfield location (1591 Post Road) during business hours — Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Items needed include:

  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Tuna fish
  • Canned meats & stews
  • Cereal/Instant hot cereal
  • Coffee
  • Canned fruit
  • Other non-perishables/canned goods
  • Toiletries such as: baby diapers, feminine products, shampoo, soap, deodorant and razors/shave cream

The Konidaris Family is collecting clothing of any kind for adults and especially children, coats, blankets, sheets, pillows, non-perishable food, baby food & formula, medical supplies, toiletries of any kind including soap, toothpaste, and toilet paper, diapers, wipes, storage containers, ziplock bags, cleaning supplies, buckets, flashlights, batteries, boxes.

Art Kean and family, owners of New Canaan Mobil have paired up with the Konidaris family of New Canaan to help collect items for the victims of Sandy!

This Stamford-based nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization provides disaster relief and emergency medical supplies to Sandy victims across the tri-state area.
