Introducing New Canaan Patch

A news and information hub and community album launches.

Despite the seeming sleepiness of the first week in August, there's a lot happening in New Canaan. And you can bet that New Canaan Patch will be covering the news, letting you know about upcoming events, and filling you in on accomplishments and milestones in your neighbors' lives.

Between the Town Council, Board of Finance, Planning and Zoning, and the Board of Education, and the dozens of other boards, commissions, and committees doing the town's business there are public meetings almost every night.

About $350 million in retail sales is brought in by local businesses each year.

Residents are competing in bridge tournaments, keeping bees, attending readings by renowned authors, and doing somersaults at the town's community centers including the Lapham Center, the Nature Center, the New Canaan Library, and the YMCA.

Volunteerism and service is at the heart of this community, which is home to dozens of civic and charitable outlets including national and international organizations like Voices of September 11th and the Bridge Foundation. Neighbors are helping neighbors through the Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Food Bank, and other service opportunities.

The schools are top notch, with test scores showing students in the district to be more than 90 percent proficient in core subjects. The high school football and JETS teams have won repeated state titles and the theater program is garnering increasing accolades.

There are small town gatherings like the Family Fourth at Waveny Park and the Christmas Eve Carol Sing on God’s Acre that bring the whole community together.

New Canaan Patch aims to cover all of the above and become an essential part of the community.
