Man Fined $368 for Four Off-Leash Dogs at Waveny

Also: A dog owner was urged to be mindful of low temperatures after neighbors reported that the animal was left outside for several hours on a very cold day.

New Canaan police on Jan. 22 responded to a report that a dog left was being out in the cold for several hours on a very cold day, officials say.

According to Officer Mary Ann Kleinschmitt of the department’s animal control unit, the tip on Summer Street came in from a neighbor.

“The owner was contacted and I encouraged them to be mindful of the low temperatures,” Kleinschmitt said.

On Jan. 23, Kleinschmitt’s unit fined two individuals in Waveny Park for having their dogs off-leash outside of Spencer’s Run, the designated dog park.

One woman, from Darien, was fined $92 for running with her dog off-leash on a back trail. And a man, from Stratford, who is a known dog walker, had four dogs off-leash in the lower field at the park. He got a fine of a $368, Kleinschmitt said—one for each citation of allowing a dog to roam.

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.
