New Canaan Police to Increase Measures To Combat Traffic Violations

If you're a motorist in New Canaan who maybe doesn't always strictly adhere to the letter of the law, there's going to be an increased presence of police officers keeping an eye out for your shenanigans Tuesday.

On July 23, New Canaan police will "intensify their efforts" in targeting motorists who violate traffic laws like talking on a cellphone while driving, following other cars too closely, speeding or not granting the proper right of way to pedestrians, according to Interim Chief of Police Leon Krolikowski

Krolikowski said several additional bodies would be manning the force to deal with these issues on Tuesday in a mix of checkpoint locations and roaming patrols in both marked and unmarked vehicles.

The following roads, where these particular issues have led to increased rates of accidents or citizen complaints, will bel ignored with closer scrutiny:

• Business District/Center of Town—Elm Street and Main Street
• Jelliff Mill Road
• Lukeswood Road
• New Norwalk Road
• Oenoke Ridge Road
• Old Stamford Road
• Ponus Ridge Road
• South Avenue
• Wahackme Road
• Weed Street

"The New Canaan Police Department is serious about enforcing Connecticut's traffic laws in an effort to reduce the frequency and severity of motor vehicle accidents," said Krolikowski in a release announcing the measures.
