New Canaan Public Schools Closed Friday

St. Luke's School also has canceled school because of the winter storm that arrived overnight.

New Canaan Public Schools officials called off school Friday, as the National Weather Service now is calling for up to seven inches of daytime snow.

"New Canaan Public Schools will be closed today," reads the full email from the district and message on its website. The schools made good on a promise to let parents know by 5:30 a.m. Friday.

Here's the 2-day forecast for New Canaan from the weather service, which says up to 20 total inches of snow is possible for the area during this "major winter storm":

  • Today: Snow. High near 35. Breezy, with a northeast wind 11 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
  • Tonight: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 22. Blustery, with a north wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 7 to 11 inches possible.
  • Saturday: Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 28. Blustery, with a northwest wind 22 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
