New Canaan Super Bowl Guide [VIDEO]

Here’s your quick list of local eateries with beer and food specials for Super Bowl Sunday, with a video of some bold predictions for the game.

Chef Luis bar manager Claudio Sottile says he’s seen enough patrons come to the Elm Street restaurant to watch sports on 60-inch flatscreens to try something new this February: Do something special for Super Bowl Sunday.

Kickoff for the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game, airing from New Orleans on CBS, will include all those new ads plus a halftime show with Beyonce, who follows in the grand tradition of past acts Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.

Beer and wine specials, complimentary snacks and a full menu option are all planned for Sunday during a special 4 to 6:30 p.m. “happy hour” at Chef Luis.

Here’s a list of more great options here in New Canaan—please, if you are a business owner planning something special and are not yet listed here, just either email me before 8 p.m. Friday (michaeld@patch.com) or post your plans in a comment below and I will add it to this article:

  • Cherry Street East (the New Canaan institution already is the town's favorite spot to celebrate St. Patrick's Day): Specials on wings, draft beer and pitchers of Bud Lite (the Super Bowl catering menu also includes chili, nachos, cheeseburger bites and wings platters)
  • Gates (which is the town's favorite Mother's Day spot): Beer specials, and specials on apps like wings and potato skins
  • Joe’s Pizza (a local favorite for readers and reviewers): Specials on pizza, combo app platters, potato skins, wings and heroes and mac & cheese wedges
  • New Canaan Pizza (which gets outstanding customer reviews, including from the author—try the eggplant and onion, unbelievable): Specials on chicken wings, pizza and wedges

Note: Tequila Mockingbird chef/owner Paul Mauk says he’s expecting a lot of to-go orders for guacamole (feeds three). Personally I love the meatloaf and long have wished they'd bring back the Cowboy Pork Chops!

Whatever you're planning, enjoy Super Bowl XLVII—that's "47" (thank you Mrs. Berry, my seventh-grade Latin teacher at Saxe).

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

Tom, the tree warden doesn't just "put in trees and take them down" just like that. ThereRead More is a reason behind every tree that has come down or gone up. Whats with this town and trees anyway? It seems like a huge source of controversy...they are TREES.

if they had done it at night at least it wouldn't have been smudged. BUT, i happen to think itsRead More nice, and especially with the flags hanging. we forget we are a small new england town, and small things like the red white and blue stripes remind me that we still are! :)
