NEWTOWN, CT — As soon as they got out from lockdown on Friday, Dec. 14, Newtown High School students Taylor Varga and Amy Martin wondered what they could do to help.
By that night, they had teamed with a family friend to print bumper stickers for Newtown students (see above.) Working with J.R. Shine, who organized the charity Angels of Sandy Hook Elementary, they distributed the stickers to Newtown High School students, then to other schools, then began reaching into the community. They've been to Dunkin Donuts and Caraluzzi's.
"It's been an incredible outreach that this town's had," said Varga. "Everybody's doing something ... We didn't know how big it was going to be at first."
They've had requests from New York and Boston, says Varga, and to date they've raised about $13,000. All money will go to families, says Varga, and will be distributed through Angels of Sandy Hook Elementary.
