On Thursday: Chance for New Canaan Residents to Weigh In on Town's Future

At a public event at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Wagner Room at New Canaan High School, residents have a chance to be heard about what they'd like to see in their town's future as officials seek input on the “Plan of Conservation and Developme

A few weeks ago, New Canaan Patch asked this question of readers—“What Should New Canaan Protect or Improve in Town?”—and here are some of the responses that came back:

  • S Tadik: Roads before sidewalks.
  • Hope: Irwin Park barn: Green Technical School that focuses classes/speakers on IT, Energy and Food that naturally will feed knowledge into the community. Complete the whole park “Green.”
  • Hope: Train Station: End RR tracks @ big lot on Elm. Remove tracks @ corner of Park & Elm. Landscape corner, connect Pine & Elm lots and add small glass (green) depot at the bottom of large lot or move depot to that area.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, New Canaan Town Planner Steve Kleppin and others will hear out what anyone has to say as the town pursues its updated “Plan of Conservation and Development” (see attached flier). The 2-hour public event will be held in the Wagner Room at New Canaan High School.

The P&Z Commission and other town officials want to know what your concerns and ideas are for the town's next Plan for Conservation and Development, a multiyear guide that officials use to help them make decisions about what the town wants and needs in terms of land use.

Town officials last month green-lighted $40,000 to hire a consultant to update the plan, as required by law.

The current plan can be found in this section of the town website and it’s comprehensive.

Here’s a list with links to PDFs that are included in it:

Developmental Themes

Infrastructure Themes

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.
