Pave 2010: A Dozen Stretches to be Repaved

Public Works plans to continue chipping away at the list of roads in need of attention.

Back in August Town Council approved a $5 million road bond. With paving on the first batch of half a dozen roads complete, Public Works is set to start work on seven more stretches as soon as the ground thaws next year:

  • Main Street from Cherry Street to Farm Road
  • Lapham Road from Old Stamford Road (Rte. 106) to the town line
  • Ponus Ridge from Four Winds Lane to Wahackme Road
  • Heritage Hill Road from Forest Street to Oenoke Ridge (Rte. 124)
  • Mariomi Road from  Cheese Spring Road to Valley Road
  • Crystal Street from South Avenue to the dead end
  • Grace Street from South Avenue to the dead end

The above list is still subject to reprioritization. The repaving of Main Street could be delayed by Town Council's consideration of a proposed sidewalk extension; Crystal and Grace Streets could be set back by Aquarion's installation of a new water main on Grace Street. Some of the streets may also fare better than others during the winter months necessitating the reshuffling of the order of repairs.

Another five stretches that have prompted the most complaints are slated to be addressed with federal stimulus dollars early in 2010. But New Canaan is still waiting for the Connecticut Department of Transportation, which is responsible for distributing the funds, to sign off. Once that red tape is cut the following will get attention:
