Presidents' Day: What's Open, What's Closed

Monday is a federal holiday in honor of the nation's first president, George Washington, sometimes called "Presidents' Day," such as in our headline. Here's a starter list of what's open and closed in town.

What's Closed

Local

  • Town Hall—The town website says it's closed for Washington's Birthday. Strictly speaking, Monday is known as Washington's Birthday (though the great man was born Feb. 22), and has only become known as "Presidents Day" more recently to also ecompass Abraham Lincon's Feb. 12 birthday (in Connecticut, a state holiday).
  • New Canaan Library is closed for Presidents' Day.
  • New Canaan Post Office—There will be no mail delivered or sent Monday.
  • New Canaan Public Schools—No school Monday due to the holiday, and then the rest of the week is winter break.

State & Region

  • Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles customer services offices will close at 12:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and will be closed Monday.
