Saturday is Free Fishing Day in Connecticut

On Sunday, Oct. 8, 2011, no fishing license is required to cast a line in Connecticut. That's in the middle of Columbus Day weekend and at the height of the fall foliage season.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection invites families and friends to take advantage of “Free Fishing Day” when no license is required to fish.

Trout will have just been stocked in a number of the state's fishing areas, giving anglers a great incentive to dip a line.

From now through mid October, DEEP will release nearly 30,000 trophy and adult-sized trout into selected waters throughout the state. Among the areas stocked this fall are 21 lakes and ponds, 18 rivers and streams including 13 of the Trout Management Areas (TMA), and seven Trout Parks. DEEP will also be stocking 33,000 “yearling” trout into selected waters throughout the state.
