Striking the Right Chord at New Canaan Music

If you're in New Canaan or the surrounding area and you're looking to bring a little music into your life, Phil Williams has you covered.

The 45-year-old former TV producer officially opened the doors to his new venture, New Canaan Music, just in time for the summer sidewalk sale held in the town this past Saturday, July 20.

"It was a mad rush to get open before the sidewalk sale," Williams said. "We just got our percussion instruments in today, so now we're just getting everything laid out."

Williams said getting open in time for the sidewalk sale was a huge help for drumming up business, and they even gave away a free guitar in a raffle.

"It seemed to all go pretty good," Williams said. "We'll have classes starting up in the middle of August to coincide with the school year."

The store, located at 72 Park Street—at the end of the alley next to Chef Luis along Elm Street—offers a variety of instruments, from guitars to mandolins to woodwind to piano to brass.

There are three private rooms and a larger "jam room" for lessons with a roster of teachers Williams is preparing to unveil in the near future on the NewCanaanMusic.com website. Prospective students can also sign up for lessons on the site or email Williams at info@NewCanaanMusic.com.

Williams is also proud to be contributing to the community by currently employing five area residents, mostly students from around New Canaan.
