Tornado Watch in Effect, New Canaan Imposes Curfew

Everyone is to be off the streets by midnight, until further notice.

New Canaan and the tri-state area are now under a tornado watch until 5 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Be advised that we are now under a tornado watch in our area," Michael Handler, Director of Emergency Management wrote in an e-mail to residents at 9:40 p.m. Saturday. "Effective midnight on Saturday, aug 27, the town of New Canaan is issuing a curfew which shall remain in effect until it is lifted. All pedestrians and motorists are ordered to remain off public roads, EXCEPT in cases of emergencies. The is open and offering sheter to those in need.

Handler said he will provide additional updates on Sunday.
