Watch Memorial Service for Bond Online

The former first selectman died peacefully Jan. 7.

The community remembers former First Selectman Richard P. Bond and shows support for his family today at the Congregational Church of New Canaan starting at 3 p.m.

For those that can't attend in person, the service will also be Webcast here: http://server.everetthall.com/bondmemorial

An obituary penned by Bond's sons describes their father as a determined public servant, if at times controversial. Bond served as New Canaan's first selectman from 1996-2003, privately keeping a list of more than 100 accomplishments, including the development of the Waveny Pool, the Outback Teen Center, the acquistion of the movie theater and Vine Cottage, the expansion of the public school buildings, and Elm Street's facelift.

Before becoming first selectman, Bond had a long career in business and then served as the Executive Director of the Silvermine Guild Arts Center and on the board of the New Canaan Community Foundation. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the  foundation to support a memorial fund that will honor Bond's legacy of community service.
