Week In Review: Court Dates, YouTube Money Transfer, Disputed Alleyway & More
A look back at the week of August 2-7 in New Canaan.
Summer may be winding down, but there's no such thing as a slow news day in New Canaan. Scott DeiCas, was in court twice this week. On Monday Weston police charged him with harassment and internet crimes and on Thursday he was back to hear New Canaan's charges. When New Canaan police used his YouTube page to chat with DeiCas during their standoff, it may have been the first time the internet was used in real time by Conn. law enforcement officers. Just before the Ponus Ridge standoff, DeiCas to a friend he met in a chat room. The same morning DeiCas was in a Norwalk courtroom, John Farren's lawyer was in court in Stamford on his client's behalf. Farren is accused of attempting to murder his wife.
Elm Street merchants are appealing to a neighboring landlord who has blocked access to an alley that's been used for deliveries for more than 70 years. Speaking of deliveries, we met Roy Walder, who is in charge of getting New Canaan's 4,000 school children to and from school safely. We learned that 2009 revenue from slid about 10%. It might have something to do with fewer Enforcement Officers patrolling town.
The Board of Selectmen put added controls in place in their effort to curtail overage spending on town projects. And the economy claimed another casualty as Patricia Funt Antiques closed up shop this week.
