Week in Review: May 22-May 27

A moving restuarant, big stars to film in Darien, tension over missed information and young rowers earn an opportunity.

Monday evening, a subcommittee of the Town Council was appointed in order to solve how First Selectman, Jeb Walker, and Town Council members, allowed a $617,000 judgment against the town go unnoticed. , who was appointed chair of the subcommittee, found the approval of legal bills suspicious. With the Board of Selectman responsible for approving legal bills on a bi-weekly basis, procedures have not been successful. Monday’s meeting included points on communication, management, payment, reserve and upcoming preventative measures.

was introduced as New Canaan High School’s new principal to the Board of Education, at its meeting on Monday.  Luizzi is going into his position focusing on giving each student a voice. He is impressed with the community’s reputation of excellence and looks forward to giving back to it, through the education system.

Bill Taibe, LeFarm chef and owner, introduced a new way of dining out to New Canaan residents this week. Taibe wanted to move outside of the traditional restaurant walls and take his organic cuisine on tour. Taibe sent out an e-blast last week, containing all event information aside from the place for his dining experience. The only thing that diners knew about the location was that it was twelve miles from LeFarm. The destination of the Souterrain events remains unknown up until twenty-four hours prior to mealtime. Destinations have been as quirky as an abandoned storefront and a Lillian August showroom.

19 rowers fromhave earned their right to partake in the U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals. The team has been offered six invitations to participate in the event. Coach Vengerouskiy will be joining the team in Oak Ridge, TN from June 10-12.

Darien native, Topher Grace, will be returning to his hometown in July to film . Neighboring New Canaan native, Katherine Heigl, will be joining him, along with Robert DeNiro and Diane Keaton.
