Winter to Return to New Canaan Wednesday

Call it Mother Nature’s rude reminder that the first day of spring isn’t until March 20.

If you’re thinking we’re , you’re sadly mistaken: A winter weather advisory has been issued for Wednesday through Thursday morning for Fairfield and New Haven counties.

According to the National Weather Service the region will get anywhere from 1 to 5 inches of snow, mixed with rain, with inland towns getting higher accumulations. In addition it will be colder, with temperatures dropping into the high 20s/low 30s on Wednesday night. What’s more there will be wind gusts of up to 20 miles an hour Wednesday into Thursday.

“Snow is currently expected to overspread Southern New England Wednesday afternoon and transition to a wintry mix Wednesday evening,” the National Weather Service said in an 11:35 a.m. Tuesday update. “The heaviest precipitation should occur from late Wednesday into Thursday morning. It is possible for colder temperatures to linger longer than currently forecast, resulting in less mixed precipitation and more snow.”

It will be more rain than snow, the weather service predicts. The storm “could” impact the Wednesday evening commute and “should” impact the Thursday morning commute, it said.

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.
