ArtScapades - Realism: From Dramatic to Ordinary

The New Canaan Library,
through a sponsorship from
the Friends of the New Canaan Library,
announces the continuation of the ArtScapades six-part series on European Art.

On Monday, November 25th, ArtScapades presents a look at Realism.

This lecture explains how Realism moved away from historical and literary themes towards common, ordinary subjects.  Works by Corot, Daumier, Millet, Courbet and Bonheur will be presented.

The series continues on Monday, March 3rd with French Impressionism: From Studio to Plein Air.  ArtScapades will give the history of factors that brought the movement to Paris including the industrial revolution and advances in materials and technology.  ArtScapades chronicles the lives of Manet, Monet, Renoir and Degas.
