We all grew up with the story of Little Red Riding Hood: Little Red takes a basket of goodies to her sick grandmother in the woods and instead encounters the big bad wolf.  This beloved classic fairy tale is the subject of a new exciting exhibit opening on November 2nd at the New Canaan Historical Society entitled: Seeing Red: Little Red Riding Hood Visits the New Canaan Historical Society.  Designed to delight visitors of all ages, the exhibition will feature the collection of Peggy Rice who has spent 50 years collecting all things Little Red Riding Hood.  To celebrate this extraordinary exhibition, the Society will host an evening of cocktails and merriment at the exhibition’s opening reception on November 2nd.  The fun begins at 6pm at the Society, which is located at 13 Oenoke Ridge Road in New Canaan.

The evening will be marked with special touches.  A ribbon cutting ceremony will officially open this enchanting exhibition, and guests will meet and mingle with collector Peggy Rice.  Attendees will also enjoy a lecture with Catherine Orenstein, author of Little Red Riding Hood Uncloaked: Sex, Morality & the Evolution of a Fairy Tale, which explores stories told about women over 500 years across multiple continents and how they shape our lives today.

“We are pleased to invite the community to this extraordinary opening that promises to be an exciting evening.  Guests will be among the first to see this delightful new exhibition, while hearing a captivating lecture and enjoying a memorable evening,” said Janet Lindstrom, Executive Director of the Society.  When asked how it feels to share her collection with the community, collector Peggy Rice said, “I'm thrilled, happy and delighted!  It's meaningful to me and fun to have such exposure for my collection."

Tickets will go on sale beginning October 19th at a cost of $75 per person.  Reservations are limited, and tickets are available by calling 203-966-1776.  A portion of the ticket price will benefit the New Canaan Historical Society’s educational programming.  The exhibition will be open through January 26, 2013.  Tues - Fri 10:00 - 4:00 and Sat 10:00 - 12:00.

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.
