Save Our Stepney to Light the Holiday Tree with the arrival of Frosty the Snowman.

The Save Our Stepney (SOS) Task Force along with Frosty the Snowman will light up the Stepney Green with luminaries and the holiday tree on Saturday, December 1st, at 7:00 p.m.

The Stepney Volunteer Fire Company, The Stepney Baptist Church,  Frosty the Snowman, and individual members of Save Our Stepney Task Force are contributing to making the event possible.

The event is sponsored by Save Our Stepney (SOS) Task Force. The Stepney Volunteer Fire Company will trim the tree on the green in advance of the December 1st lighting. The large holiday tree will be decked with over 400 LED bulbs thanks in part to a donation by Como and Nicholson Insurance, Main Street, Monroe, CT. The Stepney Green is located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 59.

First Selectman Vavrek will welcome the community to the annual event on the Stepney Green. All will be treated to holiday music performed by the Just Voices Singers under the direction of Mike Pelligrino, a reading of  “’Twas the Night Before Christmas”, and the ringing of the bells of the carillon from the Stepney Baptist Church steeple. Monroe Boy Scout Troop 62 will provide fresh made donuts. Reverend Kevin Merritt, of the Stepney Baptist Church, invites all attendees to a carol sing in the Stepney Baptist Church immediately following the tree lighting. Hot Chocolate and fresh baked cookies will be served.

Frosty the Snowman will make a special appearance aboard a new Stepney Volunteer Fire Company truck at the invitation of SOS to flip the tree light switch ushering in the holiday season. Candy canes will be given to all to welcome Frosty.

Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Monroe food pantry. Barrels will be provided for the contributions. The Stepney Green will glow from more than 250 luminaries that will be lighted around the perimeter of the Green. Save Our Stepney welcomes donations from all members of the Monroe community for the lighting program.
