The election is over – what now? For many, regardless of age, it’s a time for making new evaluations and choices concerning insurance, medical, financial, downsizing and tax issues. “Navigating the Options in Uncertain Times”, a workshop presentation and panel discussion with several members of the Alliance of Business Professionals will be held at the New Canaan Library Gallery on Tuesday, November 27 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The public is invited and reservations are not necessary.

Panelists include Don Moyle of Insurance Navigation, health insurance for business and individuals; John Murphy of The Boudreau Murphy Group, Morgan Stanley, financial advisor and portfolio manager; Cynthia Herbert, Appretium Appraisal Services, fine and decorative arts and antiques; Carol Hollyday, a top producing Realtor with William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty and John Nelson of Nelson & Koeppen LLC, tax planning and accounting. The discussion will be moderated by Bill Bergner of State Farm Insurance, New Canaan.

Among the critical issues to be raised:

  • How do you distinguish between over 100 Medicare plan options in Connecticut?

  • How will potential new legislation affect your investment strategy?

  • Why your antiques may not be worth as much as you thought.

  • When does it make sense to downsize?

  • How do you keep monthly expenses under control when living on a fixed income?

Without using real names, the panelists will discuss actual case studies representing scenarios confronting people of various ages and different stages in life, the issues facing them and the options available. There will be an opportunity for audience questions.

The New Canaan based Alliance of Business Professionals, founded in 2004 by Bill Bergner of State Farm and Morris Barocas of the Barocas Law Firm, has grown to include 17 members representing a variety of professions. The goal of members is supporting and providing a sounding board for one another, promoting the town of New Canaan and providing a network of resources for their individual clients. In addition to the panelists, other members include J Berry of JB Design, Dom Bonarrigo of Spring Water Consulting, career and transition counseling; William Budd of The Boudreau Murphy Group, Morgan Stanley; Amy Gildea and Chieh Jen of Peoples United Bank, Nancy Helle, free lance writer and public relations consultant; Anna Maria Kinberg of Interiors by Anna Maria, interior design and staging for residential and commercial properties, Rita Kirby of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, Manny Louis of R3 Inc., computer and network installation/repair and Andrew Nuzzi, of Andrew Nuzzi Architects.

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.
