Advanced and Structured Preparation Found to Decrease Stress and Increase Test Results

According to the US Department of Education, test anxiety can significantly lower test scores. The level of student stress directly correlates to the ability to function and perform well on such exams. Research has found that the single-best approach to reducing stress and increasing scores is advanced and structured preparation.

The New Year offers students with a renewed opportunity to learn and implement skills and strategies that will decrease stress and increase performance. To this end, St. Luke’s School is making the S4, Successful Study Skills 4 Students 5-Steps to Test Success Workshop available to all area students.

Advanced studying and preparation is the single best method students can use to do well on tests and midterms,” said Jim Yavenditti, Head of Upper School at St. Luke’s. “The S4 program provides students with the needed skills and strategies for enhanced learning and retention, increasing their abilities to do well on tests. Students that have attended previous S4 workshops held on the St. Luke’s campus, have gained valuable study skills which have been reflected in their attitude and performance.

The workshop is being offered at the St. Luke’s School, Saturday, February 2, from 10:00 am -1:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch break which will be provided. The workshop is open to all area students.

The 5-Steps for Test Success Workshop is designed to increase student confidence and reduce stress, by providing a clear road-map and structured approach in the preparation of tests, following instruction in a 5-step process:

1.    How-to prepare, uncover & zero-in each test subject
2.    How-to organize materials for studying
3.    Specifically how-to study for each subject
4.    How-to plan & manage time to focused and on track
5.    How to overcome stress & anxiety

Students will learn:

  • How-to study for mid-terms and other tests

  • How-to organize notes and materials from which to study

  • How -to make study guides

  • How-to remember what shouldn't be forgotten

  • How-to plan out studying

  • How-to overcome test-taking anxiety

The Test Prep workshop, as all S4 programs, is highly interactive, collaborative and dynamic in presentation, creating an engaging, compelling and comfortable learning environment. Limited class size of 15 ensures that all students get personalized attention.

Unique to the S4 program are the take-home materials that complement and outline the workshop materials, and that are designed for ongoing student and parental support.

The 3-hour 1-session workshop will be held at St. Luke’s School, 377 North Wilton Road, New Canaan, CT 06840, on Saturday, February 2, from 10:00 am -1:30 pm, with an allotted 30-minute lunch break which will be provided.

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.
