TPNC Presents: Skylight by David Hare

"Skylight" Opens At Powerhouse Theatre on May 2

"Skylight," the award-winning David Hare drama opening at the Powerhouse Theatre on May 2nd, "Is like a clinic in the elements of great theatre," says Town Players of New Canaan Co-President Sheri Dean.

"Interesting characters are portrayed with surprising depth, excellent writing gives insights into both personal relationships and class conflict, and the tension never lets up. It's delicious!" says Dean.

"Skylight" is about a meeting in a London flat between a pair of former lovers. Tom is a highly successful restaurateur. Kyra was once his waitress, became his business associate, and then his mistress of six years. She’s a brilliant and idealistic young woman who since has become a teacher in the inner city and lives in austere circumstances, mostly by choice. After Tom’s wife dies of cancer, Tom arrives in his private limousine to pay Kyra a visit. Their passion still burns, but the conflict between their values may be too great for reconciliation to occur.

Playwright David Hare has received three Best Play Tony nominations--including one for "Skylight," two Academy Award nominations, and three Golden Globe Award nominations. He has won awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the Writers Guild of America, and the Society of London Theatre.

Director Tim Cronin has been active in local theater for the last 15 years, designing sets, acting, stage managing and directing. At the Powerhouse, he has directed "Proof," "The Weir," and "The Fox On The Fairway."

Alexandra Burke plays Kyra. A graduate of Fairfield University, she has appeared in "Three Sisters," "Romeo and Juliet," and "A Streetcar Named Desire."

Bob Filipowich plays Tom. He has previously appeared at the Powerhouse in several productions including "Same Time Next Year," "Love, Sex and the IRS," "Post Mortem," "Living Together," and several holiday pantos.

Tyler Giggi plays Edward, Tom’s son. He played Curley in last year's TPNC’s production, "Of Mice and Men." At New Canaan High School, he appeared in "The Drowsy Chaperone," "Sweet Charity," and "Oklahoma."

Skylight opens at 8pm on Friday May 2 and continues May 3 at 8 pm, May 4 at 2:30, May 9 - May 10 at 8 pm, May 11 at 2:30 pm, and May 16 - May 17 at 8 pm.
