New Canaan Cell Phone Survey Update — October 2011

Town Cell Phone Usage Survey results strongly suggests residents want better cell service in New Canaan!

I just reviewed the updated Cell Phone Survey (October 1, 2011) which is posted on the New Canaan website. If you have not taken the survey, I encourage you to take a few minutes and complete the survey. Your views and opinions can help the Town and cell service providers to move ahead in finding new cell tower sites which will significantly help us to improve cell coverage.

To date, about 433 residents have taken the survey. Here's what they said: 94 percent are regular cell phone users; there are 2.96 phones per family; best cell coverage is in the downtown area, next best is south of downtown while next best is east of downtown. North and west of downtown is spotty! By far, north of downtown is the worst place for service. Ninety-four percent of survey takers report dropped or not completed calls. Forty-five residents reported that calls to 911 emergency (fire, accident, medical and other) were NOT COMPLETED! 91 percent support building more cell towers!

To me the missed 911 calls is unacceptable and for this reason alone we need to improve our overall cell coverage. Speak up, talk with members of , the or or . Tell them you want to see and will support the need to extend the cell coverage in New Canaan.
