MAKE A DIFFERENCE--TAKE THE CELL PHONE USER SURVEY
As of February, nearly 700 residents and visitors to New Canaan have taken the on-line cell phone user survey. By taking the survey, your Town Utilities Commission gets direct and frank feedback from the people who live and work in our town about their experience using wireless or cell phone connectivity. Enter this address in your computer or smart phone browser:

The vast majority of the survey takers tell us they want better cell service--well over 89%. About the same % tell us they know that to improve wireless service we'll need to build more cell towers. It's the town topography stupid!
We have too many ridges and valleys and this restricts cell signal coverage. Our coverage reliability is about 25%. Poor for a town such as ours. Poor for any area and especially not good for making 911 emergency calls to police, fire or EMC. Too many 911 calls fail! More storms will strike and more residents will need their cell phones to work. . .the first time!
Darien by the same token has much better coverage. They are in the 70% reliability range. Why because their land is flatter. A typical cell tower can send out and receive your cell signal to a range of up to two miles. It's less if the ground is not flat between your phone and the cell tower. Please take the cell survey. Tell us what you want, tell us what you think and most importantly give us your ideas as to where we might site new cell towers. Thanks
