Bone Marrow Match Sought for New Canaan Student, Kyle Markes, 11

New Canaan Country School Student, Kyle Markes, 11, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood leukemia, in November 2012, and is in immediate need of a transplant. 

Unfortunately, Kyle's immediate family members are not bone marrow matches for Kyle. Kyle, who attends school in New Canaan and lives in Stamford, eagerly awaits for a match. 

While all prospective donors are invitied to be tested, a match will likely be found among African American and Afro-Caribbean communities. The test is a simple cotton swab of the inside of one's mouth. 

There are two bone marrow drives scheduled, one on Sunday July 21st, 1:00pm-4:00pm at Grace Baptist Church, 17 West Ave., in Norwalk (in the lower level MLK room) or on the following Sunday, July 28th in 11:00am-2:00pm at the First United Methodist Church, 42 Cross Road, Stamford.

The need is for people between the ages 18-44 (African American or Caribbean descent). The process is simple. Potential matches are given a cotton swab swipe.
Help will be provided to complete simple paperwork on site. There is no cost to register and insurance is not required.
