Throughout the severe winter weather Bridgeport Rescue Mission remains dedicated to demonstrating the love of God by providing thousands of nutritious meals, warm coats and emergency shelter to hundreds of hurting and homeless men, women and children. But right now the Mission is facing monumental challenges that are hampering their efforts.
One of the Mission’s two Mobile Kitchens has broken down beyond a reasonable cost to repair, forcing the Mission to use a cargo van to continue transporting and distributing meals to 10 sites in the area’s most impoverished neighborhoods in Bridgeport and South Norwalk. “But the van isn’t equipped for this purpose and meals are cold by the time they’re served,” explained Executive Director Terry Wilcox. “We need another good, used food truck specifically outfitted for this vital program.”
In addition, throughout the eight heating systems in the Mission’s multiple facilities, two boilers failed and pipes froze and burst during some of the coldest nights in January. One boiler had to be replaced, the second was repaired and the water damage was significant.
“All these expenses were unforeseen and have taken a significant toll on our budget,” Wilcox said. “We’re issuing a ‘CODE BLUE’ request to the community to help the Mission offset these unbudgeted financial challenges. I’m confident our Mission friends and donors can understand the urgency of our situation and I urge them to do all they can to help!”
Financial donations can be made online, 24 hours a day, at www.BridgeportRescueMission.org or mailed to Bridgeport Rescue Mission, PO Box 9057, Bridgeport, CT 06601.
