Bank Sponsoring Turkey Drive for Carver Community Center Families

The Bank of New Canaan is a sponsor of the annual program organized by the Carver Community Center that provides needy families in Norwalk with a Thanksgiving turkey, and the Bank is inviting the community to lend their support.

The Carver Foundation of Norwalk reaches nearly 5,000 individuals each year through a blend of community, educational, enrichment and recreational programs.  In addition to its busy community center and family support services, free afterschool programs led by certified teachers and other qualified staff and volunteers are based within Norwalk’s four middle schools and two high schools.  Carver provides a variety of opportunities to disadvantaged youths that helps build skills.  Carver sets and keeps students on a trajectory toward graduating on-time and being college-ready, helping disadvantaged youth go as far as their individual talents will take them.

Those interested in providing a turkey for a needy family can do so in one of two ways during the week of November 14-18.  One can either 1) drop off a frozen turkey to the Carver Community Center at 7 Academy Street in Norwalk between the hours of 1-5 p.m., or 2) pick up a certificate at either Bank of New Canaan branch or at Walter Stewarts Market and take that certificate to Walter Stewarts to purchase a $19 turkey that will be delivered to the Carver Center in time for Thanksgiving.

Notes Carver Center Executive Director Novelette Peterkin, “Last year, thanks to support from our community, we were able to provide 150 turkeys to needy families, but there are many more we need to serve.  This year, our goal is to provide 225 turkeys and food baskets to the families that are signing up every day at our community center.  We are deeply grateful to our supporters for helping us expand our appeal to the extended community.

As New Canaan’s only hometown bank, The Bank of New Canaan is a locally managed commercial bank committed to providing the highest possible level of customer service and added value to the community.  Located at 208 Elm Street and 156 Cherry Street, the Bank offers a full range of banking and lending services.  For more information interested parties can visit the bank’s website at www.bankofnewcanaan.com
