Hoops for Haiti

A fundraiser is being held by New Canaan residents to raise money for the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. It is called Hoops for Haiti.  This will be held next Saturday (February 6th) from 12 pm to 6 pm at New Canaan High School.   This event is for all basketball players (boys and girls) in grades K-8.

Donations will be made through the Red Cross and Americares.  The mission is to get the maximum number of player participants involved.

The time slots for various grades are as follows:

4 pm to 6 pm:  8th grade boys, 7th and 8th grade girls and K-2nd grade boys and girls

Players should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time in order to make their way through registration, and the format will be a 3-3 tournament as well as a sponsored shooting contest (whereby the kids will have 60 seconds to shoot from various spots on the floor for a running point total) which is designed to get the kids more involved by having them go into the community to gain sponsorship. The 3-3 tourney is by grade (so 5th plays with 5th), but kids can play up if they so choose.  They also may register twice and play in multiple tournaments provided that they play at their grade level or higher.  There will be food and drink concessions as well.

The registration fee is $20 and donations are encouraged.  Pre-registration on-line is encouraged.  The website link to register and for more information is: https://ems.resrunner.com/hoopsforhaiti
