New Canaan Library Board Member Receives ACLB Award

On Friday morning, after celebrating her first 100 days at the helm of one of New Canaan's greatest treasures and discussing what's next on the agenda for the coming 100 days, library director Lisa Oldham took the opportunity to present former board member Elizabeth Ellsworth with the Association of Connecticut Library Board's ACLB Award.

Ellsworth was a New Canaan Library Board of Trustees member for two full terms and a total of seven years. The awards are "an opportunity to recognize talented people who made things happen and provided extraordinary support to their Board," according to the ACLB.

"I am so honored because it's such a tremendous organization and there was so much depth of talent on the board during the time that I served that we were really able to take that synergy and create something fantastic for the town" Ellsworth said. "Laying that ground work just helps pave the way for the future."

The ACLB cited Ellsworth's leadership on the board during their most historically comprehensive facility planning assessment efforts, as she chaired the strategic planning committee, made new facility plan recommendations and was involved in the hiring of an architectural firm.

"She is a constant fixture at the library as a board member, patron and concerned citizen. Her influence has been felt across many areas of the organization and she has served on many committees as well as Board Vice President," wrote the New Canaan Library Board of Trustees in their nomination letter for Ellsworth. "The board of New Canaan Library Board of Trustees [wishes to] acknowledge and celebrate Elizabeth’s outstanding service and leadership to the organization."
