New Canaan Police Announce 2 Promotions to Captain

The New Canaan Police Department announced Thursday two promotions to the rank of Captain. 

According to the Office of Chief Leon Krolikowski, Vincent DeMaio's promotion will move him into the position of commanding the Operations Division. John DiFederico's promotion moves him to the position of commanding the Staff Services Division.

DeMaio is a 24-year veteran of the department and has served in a number of roles, including patrol officer, dispatcher, patrol sergeant, training officer, detective in the investigative division, patrol lieutenant, and investigations commander. He's also been the department's Accreditation Manager, handling on-site reaccreditation examinations by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, in addition to acting as a CALEA Assessor for other agencies. He is a rank member of the executive board of the Police Association of Connecticut. 

DeMaio, who has a BA from the University of Connecticut and a Master's in Public Administration from the University of New Haven, has two children with his wife, Jennifer. 

DiFererico is a 21-year veteran of the department and has served in a number of roles, including as a patrol officer, dispatcher, patrol sergeant, training officer, and detective in the investigative division. He's received special training in firearms and accident investigation and crash reconstruction. 

DiFederico, who has a Bachelors from Norwich University, has three children with his wife, Denise.

The promotions will be effective October 28, 2013.
