New Canaan Police Welcome Newest Officer

The New Canaan Police Department welcomed its newest officer to the force Thursday. In the wake of several retirements, Stephen Tam officially started on his quest to join the ranks Thursday morning at an event hosted at the Lapham Community Center.

Tam, 23, of Little Neck, NY, began his journey on August 25, 2012, after taking a written and physical examination. He graduated in May 2012 with a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from the University at Albany, State University of New York.

Tam is also currently a U.S. Army National Guard out of Utica, NY, where he is a 2nd Lieutenant. Tam will report to the Police Officers Standards and Training Council Academy on Friday, January 03, 2014, to receive basic police officer training. His tentative graduation date is currently listed as June 18, 2014.

"We wish Officer Tam a very happy, safe and rewarding career with the New Canaan Police Department," said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.
