'Obie' the Parrot Comes Home

The friendly green parrot found in Kiwanis Park has been reunited with his owners.

We all can use some good news and New Canaan has its bright spot today.

On Tuesday, one of our readers inquired whether she could post an announcement on Patch regarding a found parrot.

It turns out that the reader's daycare program co-workers found the parrot when they brought their charges for a visit to Kiwanis Park on Old Norwalk Road on July 15. The reader helped her co-workers and the green feathered fowl to Grove Street Veterinary where the kind staff agreed to keep until the owner was found.

The reader posted an announcement on New Canaan Patch which we featured on the homepage. (Note to readers: You can always post lost and found pets and items on Patch by using this link.)

Flash forward about 24 hours.

Just about 24 hours later Julio Sanchez posted on New Canaan Patch, "Thanks to the lady who found Obie. I also thank you Amanda from New Canaan Nature Center and to the two kind ladies at the Vet's office located on Grove Street. And finally, thanks to Patricia Cahill from Springdale who saw the (ad) and call(ed) us. Obie is back home thanks to all of you."

It's not immediately known how long Obie the parrot was on the lam or how far from home he was.

Bottom line: We're excited there's a happy ending to this story.
