Ten Thousand Villages Hosts Holiday Benefit for New Canaan Library

Continuing with the theme of keeping it local this holiday season, New Canaan's Ten Thousand Villages is making the idea more enticing by hosting a holiday shopping event next week that will benefit the New Canaan Library.

As they will do sporadically throughout the year, the store will host a benefit from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, at their 96 Main Street location and donate 15-percent of the proceeds generated during that time to the library.

“The purchase of a unique handcrafted gift from Ten Thousand Villages will not only support The New Canaan Library, but will improve the livelihoods of artisans in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East,” said Shawn Webb, Ten Thousand Villages in New Canaan store manager.

Ten Thousand Villages, an organization that has offered artisan-crafted home decor, jewelry, personal accessories and gift items from around the world for more than 50 years, is also offering a free gift with purchase during the "evening of fun, fair trade shopping."

Products are featured from 130 artisan groups representing 38 countries in a network of more than 150 retail outlets. Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit 501-c3 organization ad has established buying relationships with artisans in places where they "lack opportunities for stable income."

The New Canaan Library’s mission is to "Enrich the town's intellectual and cultural life by providing free and convenient access to information, fostering lifelong learning, and encouraging the exchange of ideas."
