What's Open, What's Closed for Memorial Day Weekend

Government offices and some other places close or curtail their hours for Memorial Day, which is this coming Monday, and for Memorial Day weekend, the traditional start of summer.

Heres a list of what's open and what's closed this weekend:

FRIDAY — Closed

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles customer service centers will close  at 12:30 p.m., remaiin closed on Saturday (they're normally closed on Monday) and reopen at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 28.

SATURDAY — Closed

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles customer service centers, like the one in Norwalk (see "Friday" section, above)

SATURDAY — OPEN

New Canaan Library, open normal Saturday hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

New Canaan Transfer Station, open normal Saturday hours (7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.)

SUNDAY — Closed

New Canaan Library

MONDAY — Closed

Connecticut state offices

Federal government offices

New Canaan Library

New Canaan Public Schools

New Canaan town offices

Post offices

Transfer Station

New Canaan YMCA

MONDAY — OPEN

TD Banks, including the one at 272 Elm St. (All banks in the state have the option of remaining open. In practice, TD Bank is just about the only one.)

Restaurants, generally, unless they're normally closed on Mondays

Grocery stores

Other businesses: open at the owner’s discretion

Call ahead or look online before heading to businesses to confirm they are open. Many retail stores or gyms/health clubs may be operating on a Sunday schedule or with limited hours.

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES

Metro-North has announced it "will add extra trains on Friday, May 24, to help New Yorkers get an early start on the long three-day weekend. All MTA services will operate on Sunday schedules on Memorial Day."

CT Transit in Stamford will operate on a Sunday schedule. There will be no Commuter Connection service.

The Norwalk Transit District's Wheels buses won't be running on Memorial Day.
