Giving Thanks and Saluting V. Donald Hersam on Veterans Day

With in New Canaan almost a distant memory, I wanted to offer my sincere thanks to so many for your support, hard work and kindness during my campaign for Town Treasurer. 

I also want to congratulate V. Donald Hersam on winning the election and pay tribute to his service to New Canaan and our country on Veterans Day.

Finally, I wish to extend my gratitude to all candidates who dedicate their time and efforts to protect and serve the interests of all of New Canaan - and to all of the workers at the polls at and for their long hours and friendly guidance to all who voted on Election Day.

I very much appreciate Don Hersam's reflections in the New Canaan Advertiser yesterday.  "I commend Kathleen for her exceptional race, tremendous support she engendered from her party, and others in the town; that’s one of the things I believe in — competition, in any political arena.

“It’s only by sheer weight of the numbers of the party that I won, and I’m not demeaning my win, but Kathleen raised many questions that deserve further discussion and commentary going forward, so she may very well have changed the way New Canaan continues to do business."

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to run in a race against Don - he is a true gentleman. 

Having received notes and calls of condolences for my election loss, I assure you I am fine and believe that — to paraphrase Alfred Lord Tennyson — 'Tis better to have run and lost, than never to have run at all.
