Reflections from Town Treasurer Candidate

Kathleen Corbet, candidate for Town Treasurer, offers thanks for the broad-based support and reflects on a new perspective to a familiar adage: "If it ain't broke....why not make it better?"

With Election Day, Tuesday, November 8 just around the corner, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to so many of you from across New Canaan who have both publicly and privately shared your enthusiasm, spread the word, or simply offered a smile and quiet nod in support of my candidacy for New Canaan Town Treasurer.

At the recent League of Women Voters' Candidates' Night, it was a privilege to share the stage with my honorable opponent, V. Donald Hersam, and I was pleased to see all of our candidates for Board of Selectmen, Town Council, Board of Education and Town Clerk offer their perspective on the important issues facing New Canaan. 

During the debate, an audience member offered the familiar adage, "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"  Later that night, my 15-year-old son offered his take, "If it ain't broke.....why not make it better?"

I was struck by the simplicity of his observation, yet reminded that innovation and inspiration are often borne by those who are not encumbered by tradition or by doing things a certain way because that's the way it's always been.

If elected, I pledge to make the process better through responsible risk oversight of Town expenditures, cash and pension fund accounts, and municipal bonding.
