Richie Whitcomb is not the biggest football player you’ll encounter on the gridiron, but his coaches say he’s one of the hardest hitters on the NC Red 3 team. Richie took the time to talk to us about his inspirations and aspirations, and also did a quick video demo of his handy-work on the football field
1.) I see you wear #22. Who is that for?
RW: It’s for Emmitt Smith. I guess.
2.) You guess? You know who Emmitt Smith is?
RW: He’s an NFL player.
3.) What team did he play for?
RW: Oh God…the Cowboys?
4.) You’re good. What’s your favorite position to play in football?
RW: Outside Linebacker.
5.) Why OLB?
RW: Because you get to tackle people.
6.) How much do you weigh?
RW: 63 pounds.
7.) You’re going up against some guys who are almost twice as heavy…how do you tackle them?
RW: Get ‘em low.
8.) Is that the most important thing when you’re trying to tackle someone?
RW: Get ‘em low, and wrap ‘em up.
9.) Life lessons learned from football, huh?
10.) Who is your hero in sports?
RW: Eli Manning.
11.) How about outside of sports?
RW: My dad and my grandpa Dick.
12.) What do you want to be when you grow up?
RW: Football player.
13.) How about when your career is over? Gotta think about that too.
