Anita Grasso, 81; New Canaan Resident Who Worked as a Seamstress


Anita Grasso, of New Canaan, passed away on February 14, 2014 at Norwalk Hospital with her family at her side. She was 81.

She was born on July 21, 1932 in Lucera, Foggia, Italy, a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria Altieri DeVivo. Anita received her education in Italy and worked for many years as a seamstress.

On Sept. 26, 1955 she married Anthony P. Grasso Sr. in Lucera, Italy.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Grasso is survived by her two sons, Anthony P. Grasso Jr. and Joseph M. Grasso Sr., both of New Canaan, and her daughter, Elizabeth A. Buzzeo and her husband Ralph, of New Canaan; three brothers, Mario DeVivo of Newtown, Armando DeVivo, of Italy and Leonardo DeVivo, of Norwalk, three sisters, Elvira Marotta of New Canaan, Lucille Pellegrino of New Jersey and Enza Ruggieri of Norwalk, grandchildren, Samantha J. Grasso and Joseph M. Grasso Jr. She also is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Grace Grasso and Connie DeLong and her brother-in-law, John Pagliano. 

Mrs. Grasso was predeceased by her brother Antonio Devivo.

Friends and relatives may call at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Church, in New Canaan on Feb. 18, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
