Elma Fay, 96; Author, Active in Civic Organizations

Elma Ernst Fay, of New Canaan, passed away on March 27, 2014 at Norwalk Hospital after a long illness. She was 96.

She was born on March 1, 1918 in Quincy, IL. to the late Charles and Anna Ernst.

She and her late husband, Edward R. Fay lived in Westport, for many years.

Mrs. Fay was a graduate of Quincy College. During World War II, Elma joined the American Red Cross and served in Europe from 1943 to 1945 as leader of Clubmobile Group K. She wrote a memoir about her war experiences entitled "Through a Donut Hole". 

After the war, Mrs. Fay pursued a career in nonprofit organizations both in New York City and Westport. Both she and her husband were active in many local civic organizations in Westport and Norwalk. 

Mrs. Fay is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. 

A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Norwalk.
