Gita Treimanis, 92; Artist Whose Work is On Exhibit in New York City

Services for the New Canaan resident will be private.


Gita Treimanis, of New Canaan, passed away on April 3, 2014 at home with her 
family at her side. She was 92.

Mrs. Treimanis was born on July 16, 1921 in Maliena, Latvia to the late 
Augusts and Minna Viksne Lapins.

She was studying drama in Riga, Latvia when World War II interrupted her life. Her family had to flee the country. Later in life she became an artist and had numerous art exhibitions in both Soho and Chelsea area in New York City. When she retired in New Canaan, she was a regular member at Silvermine Art Studios and continued her art. She is currently exhibiting at the BWAC gallery art show in Brooklyn, NY http://bwac.org/ 

Mrs. Treimanis is survived by her four daughters, Mara Treimanis, Zane Treimanis, Christine Treimanis and Anne Treimanis; her son, Gijs Treimanis; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

The family will hold a private memorial service.
